Mooring Information
When approaching the bay from the west, i.e. Hayman Island and Stonehaven, use caution negotiating the passage between Hook and Hayman islands. The reef extends a long way off Hayman, and you should be much closer to Hook island than to Hayman when negotiating this passage. If the tide is high, one can be deceived. The best area to anchor is a shallow patch (2.1 metres at '0' tide) in the entrance to Butterfly bay; this is not usually a problem for yachts, but if your draws 2.1m keep an eye on the tide. Set your anchor well and make sure you have allowed enough room to swing to avoid fringing reefs and other yachts. This is not the most ideal location to anchor overnight as you are not protected from the changing weather conditions.

General Information
Butterfly Bay is shaped somewhat like a butterfly with one underdeveloped wing. Coincidentally, colonies of butterflies may be found at times in the moist shade of trees along the creek beds. There are several very good dive/snorkel spots, particularly along the bay side of Alcyonaria point, the latter named by local divers because of the abundance of coral form there.
