Providence
V is a Gaffed-rigged Topsail Schooner
(2 masts and 8 sails). She was constructed
from strong Queensland timbers in
1988 and has sailed the Australian
coast for over 10 years.
Designed
as a half - sized replica of Gloucester
Schooners, Providence V is a breathtaking
example of sailing history. Gloucester
Schooners were Grand Banks fishing
boats and were known for their
speed and agility. They received
their names from the port of Gloucester,
on the New England coast of the
USA, where they were built. Most
vessels that took part in the
early America's Cup series, were
topsail schooners.
She
is sailed entirely by traditional
methods handed down through centuries
of experience and is perfect for
adventure sailing in the true
style of a bygone era.
